Our story
We believe that education is the one thing that can truly change the trajectory of a human life. When we first started, we dreamed of building a full-scale free school to teach students the kind of life lessons they don't get in a standard classroom. However, reality hit us—building a school from scratch is incredibly expensive. We didn’t let that stop us, though. We decided to start where we could, which is how our free nightschool and tuition center was born.
The real turning point came in 2006. Our founder spent time at the Thangal and Ennore bus stops in Thiruvottiyur, talking to the groups of government school students who gathered there every evening. He asked them a simple but heavy question: "What is your goal in life?" The lack of awareness in their answers was heartbreaking. It was in those moments that he knew exactly who this school was for. These students had the potential, but they lacked the guidance to see it.
By 2007, we officially opened our doors in the terrasse of the house near the Pattinathar Sitthar Temple. We started in the seashore slum area because that’s where the need was most visible. It was a humble beginning with only seven students. Eventually, the Correspondent of Vivekananda School heard about what we were doing. When he realized that the person leading this service was actually one of his own former students, he stepped in to help by providing us with a proper space to teach.
From those first seven students, we grew to enrolling 150 children every year. Looking back now, it is incredible to see how far we’ve come. Today, in this 20 years of journey more than 4,500 students have passed through our nightschool, walking away not just with better grades, but with a clearer sense of purpose for their lives.

If you try to carry water in a pot with even a little hole, you will arrive home with nothing. No matter how much you pour in, the vessel will never be full.
Today, I see a similar crisis in education. Students spend years in classrooms, yet many return home empty-handed. We have to ask ourselves: What is leaking? What is missing in this generation that causes their learning to slip away?
I believe education must do more than just deliver facts. It must shape a student’s thoughts, their lifestyle, and their very character. Most importantly, it must eradicate the "poverty mindset" that holds so many back.
The problem isn't that this kind of education doesn't exist—it’s that it is currently out of reach. The institutions that provide true self-awareness and character-building are often inaccessible to middle and lower-middle-class families. We are here to change that.
Our goal isn't just to point students toward a specific career or a set of marks. We don't need to show them every step of the way; we simply need to teach them how to keep their minds clear. When a mind is clear, a student finds their own voice. They become brave enough to push beyond their perceived limits.
Academics, high marks, and theory books alone cannot upgrade the quality of a human life. A person with a strong character doesn't spend their life searching for a "purpose"—they realize that life itself is the ultimate purpose. They become self-disciplined, self-realized, and ready to live on their own terms.
To bring about this development, we must stop lecturing and start letting students explore. We must help them find their own unique voice amidst the echoes of the world around them.
