Origin story of guest lecturer project

The seed for the Guest Lecturer series was planted in 2011 with a simple vision: to give our students a stage. After attending an event in Thiruvottiyur, our founder witnessed the power of public representation. He envisioned a world where his students—talented, hardworking, and ambitious—could stand on those same stages and share their potential with the world.

The journey wasn't easy. In the early days, our founder reached out to many local organizations and leaders, inviting them to visit School4Change. Unfortunately, many declined, unable to see the brilliance behind the "night school" label or the "government school" background of our students.

But rejection only fueled our determination.
The turning point came when the Inspector of the H8 Police Station, Mr. Sundramurthy broke the mold. By agreeing to visit our night school, he helped us prove that our students deserved an audience.

What started as a rare, once-a-year event has blossomed into a thriving monthly tradition.

Today, guest lecturers from all walks of life—professionals, officials, and creators—regularly visit School4Change to mentor our students, share their expertise, and witness the incredible talent brewing in Thiruvottiyur.

"We don't just provide an education; we provide a platform for our students to be seen and heard."

Why a guest lecturer event
The Guest Lecturer program at School4Change was born in 2011 from a simple yet profound vision. After attending a community event in Thiruvottiyur, our founder realized that his students possessed immense talent but lacked a stage to showcase it. He envisioned a space where young minds from government schools could stand tall alongside successful professionals, yet the initial journey was met with unexpected hurdles. Many potential speakers and organizations initially declined to visit, unable to see the potential within a night school setting.

The tide turned when the Inspector of the H8 Police Station, Mr. Sundramurthy became our first official guest, proving that our students were worthy of an audience. What began as a rare annual occurrence has since flourished into a vibrant monthly tradition. These sessions have become a bridge between the classroom and the real world, allowing our students to interact directly with real-life heroes who are actively shaping a better society. By sharing their personal journeys, these guests instill life-changing qualities in our students—teaching them that resilience, integrity, and hard work are the true foundations of success.

The impact of these visits extends far beyond motivation. These encounters have sparked genuine community support, with several guests moved to sponsor the school fees of students in need. Furthermore, the program has created professional pathways for our dedicated teaching staff; many of our college-educated teachers have secured career-defining job opportunities through the networks built during these monthly visits.

Today, the Guest Lecturer series stands as a testament to the power of representation, proving that when you provide a platform for talent, the entire community rises together.
